IMSML Web Article 22/2026: MSN 07/2025 - Extension of Appointment of MY Classification Sdn Bhd (co. Reg. No: 767457-P) as a Recognised Organisation (RO)
On 27 October 2025, Malaysian Shipping Notice (MSN) 07/2025 (revoking MSN 07/2021) published the following: MY Classification Sdn Bhd has successfully completed an audit under Resolution MSC.349(92) and Resolution MEPC.327(65) (Code for Recognised Organisations). This means that It is now authorised to perform the function of a Surveyor of Ships under Section 10(2A) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952. As a Recognised Organisations under Regulation 1 of SOLAS Chapter XI-1, the company is now licensed until 16 December 2026. At the end of the period, there will be a re-validation. MY Classification has its registered address at 64A, Jalan Rugbi 13/30, Tadisma Business Park, 40100 Shah Alam Selangor.
According to MSN 07/2025, is authorised to conduct surveys for the following:
[1] Passenger ships plying domestic Malaysian waters;
Note, Domestic Malaysia Waters means the waters of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan Waters, including Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) Malaysia.
[2] Passenger ships plying short International voyage (subject to an ad hoc approval by the Marine Department Malaysia); and
Note, Passenger ship means a ship which carries more than 12 passengers.
Note, Short international voyages means operating voyages of a ship from point to point which do not exceed more than 4 hours at operational speed when fully laden.
[3] Cargo ships of 3000 gross tonnage and below plying domestic Malaysian waters only;
[4] Classify dredgers, sand carriers and 3 in 1 vessels (transfer, dredger and carrier) exceeding 3000 gross tons; and
[5] Expanding the area of operations for ships of 500 gross tons and below excluding barges classified by the company to the waters of Southeast Asia (ASEAN).
The company’s Degree of Authorisation in listed in Appendix I under the following legal provisions:
[1] SOLAS Convention 1974 or as amended;
[2] MARPOL Convention 73/78;
[3] Statutory certificates for the following:
[a] International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972;
[b] International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships 1969 (ITC);
[c] International Convention on Load Lines 1966, as amended (ILLC);
[d] International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments 2004 (BWM Certificate);
[e] International Convention on the Control of Harmful Anti-Fouling Systems on Ships 2001 (International AFS / Declaration on AFS Certificate).
[4] Maritime Labour Convention.
