IMSML Website Article 35/2024: Resolution MSC.533(107) - Amendments to the Protocol of 1978 relating to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974

This article is about the second resolution for the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) found in Appendix I of Malaysian Shipping Notice (MSN) 12 / 2023 which deals with all the resolutions adopted by the MSC at its 107th Session.

The article deals with the Protocol of 1978 to the SOLAS Convention 1974. The amendments enter into force on 1 January 2026. This article is arguably the shortest article in the IMSML Website Article series, and is arguably better described as a ‘short note’.

The amendment relates to Appendix (see Annex 3, p 2), titled ‘Form of Safety Equipment Certificate for Cargo Ship’. The new entry relates to ‘Type of Ship’. After the entry for ‘Gas Carrier’, there is now a new entry of ‘Containership’.
