IMSML Website Article 36/2024: Resolution MSC.534(107) - Amendments to the Protocol of 1988 relating to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974

Today’s article is a continuation of the content of Appendix 1 of MSN 12 / 2023. In particular, it deals with the Maritime Safety Committee’s Resolution MSC.534(107) made at its 107’s Session. Instead of dealing with the SOLAS Convention 1974, the amendments here instead, deal with changes made to the 1988 SOLAS Protocol. The amendments come into force on 1 January 2026. The content of the amendments revolve around the ‘Form of Safety Equipment Certificate for Cargo Ships’ and ‘Form of Safety Certificate for Cargo Ships’.

Just like the previous IMSML Website Article 34/2024, this is a challenger for one of the shortest articles in this series. Just like that previous article, this written piece is arguably better described as a ‘short-note’. MSC.534(107) deals with Annex 4, p 2) and has two important parts:

[1] Amendments to the Protocol of 1988 Relating to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea 1974;

[2] Modifications and Additions to the Annex to the Internastional Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea 1974.

In the Appendix (see Annex 4, p2), there are two amendments to forms:

[1] Form of Safety Equipment Certificate for Cargo Ship - Under ‘Type of Ship’, the subject-matter ‘Containership’ has been added after ‘Gas Carrier’;

[2] Form of Safety Certificate for Cargo Ships - Similarly as in [1] above, the additional of ‘Containership’ has been made under ‘Type of Ship’ after ‘Gas Carrier’.
