Nowadays the shipping industry is frequently confronting circumstances of cross-border insolvency.
Recent media has reported that the shipping industry is now facing it's worst crisis ever, coupled by oversupply of ships adversely affecting freight rates, ship owners are drowning in debt and retreat of financial institutions has dramatically worsened the condition. Looking at the currently battered market conditions, more cross-border shipping cases are likely to surface.

Prof. Anselmo Reyes
Anselmo practiced as a barrister in Hong Kong since 1989. He was appointed Senior Counsel in 2001. As counsel, he had a broad civil practice, specialising in shipping, commercial, company, revenue and telecommunication law cases. He became a judge of the Court of First Instance in 2003. Anselmo stepped down from the Hong Kong Judiciary in 2012 to practice as a commercial arbitrator and advocate in arbitration. Anselmo Reyes has been Professor of Legal Practice at Hong Kong University since October 2012. He became an International Judge of the Singapore International Commercial Court in January 2015 and an Overseas Bencher of the Inner Temple in October 2015.
Anselmo is also currently the President of the Hong Kong Maritime Law Association.
